THE HIDDEN THEATER

Illustration ‘The Hidden Theater’ represents the second piece in my new series SYMBIOSIS. This illustration captures the intricate relationship between Nepenthes gracilis and its opportunistic residents, Thomisus nepenthiphilus and Misumenops nepenthicola. The spider ambushes prey on the pitcher’s rim and then discards the nutrient-rich remains into the digestive fluid. The plant gains vital nitrogen, and the spider gets a perfectly baited, secure hunting platform. A surprising win-win in the struggle for survival!
